38% of children under 2 years are using a tablet or smartphone

Nearly two in five children are using a tablet or smartphone before they can speak in complete sentences. This is according to a new study published by "Mashabal ".
A survey by Common Sense Media – state non-governmental organization for the protection of the family, 38 % of children under 2 years of age in the United States use a mobile device to play games, watch videos, or other media-related activities. For comparison, in 2011 the figure was about 10.
By age of eight already 72% of children have used a smartphone, tablet or similar device.
"This is the true sign of the coming of the digital generation", told " Mashabal " CEO of Common Sense Jim Steyer.
Despite its solid growth in mobile devices are far behind television - nearly 66% of children under 2 years watch TV - rate unaltered since 2011 . Use of personal computers has also jumped from 4 to 10%. Decline , however, noted when viewing DVD- th - 52 % in 2011 to 46% in 2013
The study also shows that the time during which children up to 8 years of age consume multimedia in smartphones and tablets also jumped - 10 for 15 minutes per day .
"We see a fundamental change in the way children consume media", said Steyer. "Children, who cannot yet speak and walk well, go to the TV and try to manage it like the iPhone and iPad".
According Steyer access to the smallest mobile devices has its good and bad sides. Tablets can be great tool for education, but if used too much can cause problems in child development.
