Bulgaria's Election Board Holds 1st Sitting

The first sitting of Bulgaria's brand-new Election Board at the Council of Ministries is taking place Wednesday.

Its members will adopt the rules for their work. The caretaker government has invited representatives of all NGOs that were registered as observers by the Central Electoral Committee, CEC, for the last presidential election in 2011.

Two independents have been invited as well – Mihail Konstantinov, Mathematics Professor, who recently resigned as Head of Bulgaria's State-owned IT company Information Services, and former Constitutional Judge, Emiliya Drumeva.

The Election Board at the Council of Ministries is to organize and carry out the snap general elections on May 12 in a fair and transparent manner. It is a different structure from the planned public councils at some ministries and the Cabinet.

The snap elections will be held in Bulgaria just two months ahead of the regularly-scheduled ones due to the February 21st resignation of Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, and the Cabinet of his Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria party, GERB.

The sitting starts at 2 pm and will be aired live online on the Council of Ministries site.
