Construction sector expects orders worth BGN 2 bn in 2013

"Almost BGN 2 bn will flow into Bulgaria’s construction sector next year," Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Lilyana Pavlova said on Monday.

2013 will be a peak year during which the Trakia motorway should be completed and work on the Maritza highway will continue. Several huge key projects will be launched next year: the second LOT of the Strouma motorway, the construction of the by-pass roads of the towns of Vratsa, Montana and Gabrovo, the western arc of the Sofia Ring Road, the North high-speed tangent of the Sofia Ring Road and the Sofia – Kalotina road. Next year, we will also launch projects for building dams, financed by the World Bank. All the projects are worth almost BGN 2 bn and this money will practically enter the construction business. The funds are under Operational Programme Regional Development, under projects financed by the World Bank and from the State budget. The energy efficiency of some 200 blocks of flats can be improved with money from the Operational Programme and 140 applications from across the country have already been submitted. Bulgarian building companies will be presented in Azerbaijan, Qatar, Uzbekistan, Russia, and Serbia, and once again in Qatar and Morocco.

Bulgaria is still working on the idea of creating a guarantee fund to support socially disadvantaged Bulgarians who have no money for the rehabilitation of their homes. For the next programming period, we can count on around BGN 200 mln under the new Operational Programme for Housing Reconstruction. 

Whether the country will need ten new dams in order to avoid water rationing will be known at the end of January when the first analyses and some of the master plans in the water sector will be ready.
