The largest number of new homes were built in Varna and Burgas in the last quarter of 2010

In the last quarter of 2010, the number of new and ready for use residential buildings in Bulgaria decreased by 27%, compared to the same period of 2009, according to preliminary information of the National Statistical Institute. The new buildings were 671 in number for the period October - December 2010, while the total number of apartments in them reached 4,125. The largest number of buildings and apartments were commissioned in the cities of Varna - 144 buildings and 1175 apartments, and Burgas - 116 buildings and 1,153 homes. Sofia district remained at the third position with 54 buildings and 84 new homes. 

In the last quarter of 2010, the total usable built-up area in the new homes was 318, 700 sq. m. which is almost 30% less than a year earlier. The living area also decreased by over 30% to reach 198,100 sq.m. At the same time, the average usable built-up area in a residence increased from 76.9 sq.m. to 77.3 sq.m on an annual basis. 

The highest average usable built-up area in newly constructed homes was registered in the town of Gabrovo (135.9 sq.m), followed by Dobrich (128.3 sq.m.), Silistra (114.4 sq.m.) and Haskovo (99.4 sq.m.). The lowest average data was recorded in the districts of Plovdiv (59.4 sq.m) and Yambol (60.4 sq.m). 

In the fourth quarter of 2010, 43 buildings with 292 apartments and a total usable built-up area of 19,665 sq.m. were commissioned in the city of Sofia.
