South Park is one of the biggest parks in Sofia city. It is located at the foot of Vitosha Mountain, in the southern part of the city.

The park spreads out a territory of 180 hectares situated between Bulgaria Blvd on the north, Cherni vrah Blvd and Kozyak Str on the east, Henrih Ibsen Str and Todor Kableshkov Blvd on the south, and Petko Todorov Blvd and Petko Karavelov Blvd on the west. South Park consists of two parts divided by Byala cherkva Str where the famous Vitosha Blvd ends.

The quarters around the park are Lozenets (in north-eastern direction), Ivan Vazov (in northern direction), Strelbishte (in north-western direction), Gotse Delchev (in south-western direction) and Hladilnika (in eastern direction).

South Park is an important element of Sofia city's structure. Its project was designed and approved in 1972 when its construction started.

The park was designed in landscaped style (English park). Its planning was influenced by the various reliefs and the variety of terrain shapes. There are several zones in the park.

The main entrance paths are constructed in the plain part of the terrain. They are made as decorative floorings with many flowers in geometry shapes. The children zone comprises several playgrounds, water facilities and small catering establishments. On the steep slope under Lozenets Hospital are located several theme panoramic playgrounds suitable for relaxation.

On the territory of the park willows and poplars could be seen only on the Perlovska River valley. The other flora is imported by the Sofia seed-beds. Here is located the famous 'Lower lake' which is visited by various species of birds.

South Park is popular with its variety of birds. According to some sources 65 species of birds could be seen here - 29 of them are protected and 2 are registered in the Bulgarian Red Book.

Free of charge concerts and performances are given in the park stage.

The park is full with visitors in the warm and sunny days of the year. They come here for walks and recreation. The beautiful pedestrian alleys surrounded with lots of greenery attract the citizens and make the place one of the most visited. The two main entrances from Byala cherkva Str and Petko Todorov Str are with many children attractions and are very impressive as well.
