Monastery of Batoshevo "Assumption"

Batoshevo Monastery "Assumption" is located on the riverside of Rosica and at the foot of the Balkan mountain. It is situated about 3 km from village of Batoshevo, 20 km from Sevlievo, 27 km from Gabrovo, 35 km from Apriltsi and about 200 km from Sofia. 
  
The monastery was founded in 1250, during the reign of King Michael Asen. During the Renaissance, it took an active part in the struggle against Ottoman rule. Prominent figure of the new Bulgarian education and national liberation revolution received education in the monastery school. Among them were Bacho Kiro and Father Matthew Transfiguration - Mitkaloto. Famous revolutionaries are often organized secret meetings behind the walls of the monastery. During the April uprising in 1876., it was set on fire by Turkish troops, but was reinstated shortly thereafter. 
  
The complex contains two - storey buildings, a tower, industrial facilities and church. Currently, the monastery of the Assumption is permanent. It was declared a cultural monument. Its holiday is on August 15. It also provides an opportunity for tourist accommodation. 

The monastery can be reached by a paved road from the village Batoshevo.
