Zhablyanski monastery "St prorok Iliya"

Zhablyanski monastery "St prorok Iliya" is old style monastery located at the foot of Konyavska mountain about 2 km south of the village of Zhablyano. It is 1 km southeast of the town of Zemen and 39 km southwest if the town of Pernik. The capital Sofia is 66 km northeast. 

History

It is not clear when Zhablyanski monastery "St prorok Iliya" it was founded but it was demolished during the Turkish rule. Later in the XIX century the temple was renovated and was founded religious school. From 1879 until his death in 1881 abbot of the monastery is the prominent educator and activist in church and the national struggle Averkiy Popstoyanov.
The complex consists of nave, dome and triapsidna church (built in 1884), residential and agricultural buildings.
At the moment Zhablyanski monastery is functioning men monastery and the brotherhood consists of more than 20 monks that own agricultural machinery and year round treat large land estates and crop plantations. Sometimes they offer their production for sale - apples, yogurt, yellow cheese etc. 

Transportation

The access is easy with railway transportation, bus or car to the village of Zhablyano and then just 15 minute walk to the monastery. 

Accommodation 

At the monastery there is no place to stay but less than a kilometer is situated Lokvata cottage.
