1 / 4

The natural phenomenon Stone mushrooms is situated about 1 km north-east from village of Beli plast, along the road connecting town of Haskovo and Kardzhali.

The Stone mushrooms are rock formations resembling huge mushrooms. They occupy area of 30 000 sq. m. The site was declared natural landmark in the year of 1974, with protection purposes of the rock formations.

They are harmonic rock pieces of mushroom shapes, with pink little stumps and greenish hoods. This is the result of many years' influence of water, sun and wind. The height of the little stumps and the width of the hoods reach up to 2.5 m. The mushrooms are sculptured in rhyolitic volcano tuffs. Their colours are result of different admixtures of mineral elements. Nature has been shaping this beautiful composition for millions of years.

According to the legend the Stone mushrooms are the cut heads of four sisters who denied to obey the oppressor master.

The site is convenient for visitation. It is next to asphalted road leading from village of Beli plast to town of Haskovo. It is fenced and provided with indicative signs and information board.
