Propast is a village in Southern Bulgaria. It is part of Kardzhali Municipality, Kardzhali Region.
It is located at 3 km east of the center of Kardzhali, 47 km south-west of Haskovo, 68 km in the same direction of Dimitrovgrad and 243 km south-east of the capital Sofia.
Propast is situated in the outskirts of Kardzhali in the Eastern Rhodopes at an altitude of about 222 m. The climate is transitional-Mediterranean, with hot summer and mild winter.
The population is approximately 100 people.
The village is part of a town hall comrising three villages - the village of Sipey, village of Propast and Osil neighbourhood with administrative center the village of Sipey. Propast is provided with electricity and water and has relatively good infrastructure. There is regular bus transport to Kardzhali and coverage of the mobile operators. Schools, hospitals and kindergartens you will find in Kardzhali.
In the village of Propast is situated the largest deposit of betonite which supplies the whole country with the valuable clay.
Only 4 km north of Propast, in the village of Zimzelen, is situated the rock phenomenon The Stone wedding - group of natural rock formations of figures with height up to 10 m, resembling wedding-guests. The site is natural landmark. It could be reached by a marked ecological path as well.
