Town/Village:
Kapatovo is a village in the municipality of Petrich, Blagoevgrad region.
The village is located in the Sandansko-Petrichka valley in the southwest foot of Pirin. It’s 20 km from Petrich, 16 km from Sandanski, 70 km from Blagoevgrad and about 170 km from Sofia.
Strumeshnitsa River runs near the village and amazing dense forests are spreading next to it, reaching Samuilova krepost village and the newly-built attractive complex by EU. The proximity of the village to the SPA resorts with national significance (hot springs at Rupi basin – on 7 km; Petrich – mineral baths - on 5 km, Sandanski – 15 km, Marikostinovo mud-cure center – 6 km, Kromidovo – mineral water basins), the mild mediterranean climate and the splendid view to Belasitsa mountain and Petrich create unique atmosphere in this region.
Melnishka River runs southeast from Kapatovo and is very suitable place for fishing and picnicking.
The region is ecologically clean and extraordinary fertile, due to its climate, which is favourable to the development of agriculture in Southeast Bulgaria. The soil is very rich and suitable for all perennial plants, like fruit-trees, vineyard and for building a solar station, as well. The basic branches are stock-breeding, agriculture and vine-growing.
Kapatovo is an ancient Thracian village. There is a preserved necropolis and a hillock, which attracts the interest of Bulgarian and foreign tourists.
There is a general store, village-hall, and post office, but no school or kindergarten in the village. It’s also power and water-supplied.
The roads are not so good, mainly third-class, but the village is only 3 km from the European road E-79.
There are buses twice a day to Sandanski, Petrich and Blagoevgrad.
