Makariopolsko is a village situated in North-eastern Bulgaria. It is part of Targovishte Municipality, Targovishte region.
The village is about 16 km north-east from town of Targovishte, 31 km south-east from town of Razgrad, 151 km south-west from town of Dobrich and 32 km north-east from town of Shumen.
Its population is approximately 780 people.
Makariopolsko spreads out the eastern part of the Danube plain. It characterizes with plain-hilly relief and humid continental climate. The summer is very hot and dry, and the winter is cold.
Makariopolsko is named after Metropolitan Ilarion Makariopolski - high Bulgarian cleric who was one of the leaders in the church-national war.
The village comprises a town-hall, a church, a school, a community centre, a kindergarten, a stadium, a night club, several private small swimming pools, a dairy farm and an agricultural co-operation. There is a doctor and a dentist as well.
Electricity, water and telephone net are provided. The main road Sofia-Varna passes nearby.
Agriculture - The population of the village grows mainly wheat, barley, corn, sun-flower, vegetables and fruits. Stock-breeding is in the private farms. Well-developed in the region are wine-producing and milk processing.
Interesting places to visit in the region are:
'Krumovoto kale' (The Fortress of Krum) - it is located about 25 km away from the village. Ancient ruins rise on more than 150 000 sq. m of land. The fortress was built in the times of Justinian I in the end of V century. It was part of the defensive system of Byzantium. There are suggestions the fortress was the famous town of Misionis.
'The Park' land is a recreation zone south from town of Targovishte. There is a sanitary-tourist complex based on the healing qualities of the mineral spring in the area.
Targovishte district comprises a hunting-tourist region of 300 hectares where rare game could be found (doe, deer, wild-boar, fox, badger, wolf, etc). Great variety of birds could be found here as well (partridge, pheasant, quail, pigeon, turtle-dove). There are many dams in the region that are perfect for fishing.
