Uglen is a village in North Bulgaria in Lukovit municipality, Lovech region.
It is 33 km southeast from the regional centre Lovech, 12 km east from the town of Lukovit and 34 km northeast from the city of Pleven.
The terrain is predominantly hilly. The altitude varies between 100 and 200m. The climate is temperate with cold winters and hot summers. The average January temperature is -1.5 ºC, and the average July - 23 ºC.
The population is around 920 inhabitants.
The village has a community center, a library, a church and a regular transport to major towns and villages located nearby. Top - nearest school is located in the neighboring village Dermantsi village, only 6 km from Uglen and the nearest hospital - in Lukovit.
Economy
Because of its proximity to municipal and regional center, a significant proportion of the population finds work there.
Tourism
Village along a winding river Vit offers to the fishermen good catch.
The region is an attractive place for Bulgarian and foreign speleologists because there are 28 caves.
Connoisseurs of wildlife are attracted by the majestic canyon between the villages and Uglen Sadovets - it is collected the beauty of past millennia. It is a sheer limestone cliffs, high places in 100m, dotted with countless caves, frozen in bizarre shapes. Because of the inaccessibility of the riverbed below Uglen nature is preserved from human activities. Here to this day can meet protected species listed in Red Book - kingfisher, black stork, swift.
