The town of Nea Kalikratia is a small resort town located on the seacoast of Aegean sea where seams that the time is stopped. Here the Greeks living in the town of Salonika has their own houses where they spend the weekends. Kilometers long beaches in combination with perfect weather are a good sign for an unforgettable holiday.

Location

The town of Nea Kalikratia is situated on the territory of Halkidiki area, central Macedonia. The town is located on the first sleeve of Halkidiki peninsula – Kasandra, just 44 km to the South of Salonika and 54 km from the capital of Halkidiki – the town of Poligrisos.

History

The town of Nea Kalikratia is established in 1922 from refugees of Kalikratia, to the East of Trakia. The area has been inhabited many years ago. Relics of the past and from the Greek epoch have been discovered here. Unique bas-relief has been found on this earth which you can see in the Museum of Solun. It depicts a young women holding a dove in her hands.
During the Byzantine period five big villages were spread along Nea Kalikratia valley with famous monasteries - Atos, Megistit Lauras, Agios Pavlos and Ksenofontos.
The Ksenofontos monastery has been called Stomion and has had a high tower broke down from the Turks. On the relics of it the present town has been built.

Tourism and sightseeing

The Halkidiki peninsula benefits from beautiful nature – not typical combination of green sea and green land. The three peninsulas go into the Aegean sea and form an extremely long sea coast more than 550 km with great number of rocks, gulfs and pine trees. The nature beauty of the peninsula, the rich history, the traditional architecture and the hospitability of the people are the root of the successful tourism industry recently. The seacoast is full of visitors enjoying the hot sand, crystal clear water and fresh air.
The tranquil town of Nea Kalikratia is good for family and historical tourism. The local tour operators offer great options for wonderful experience - boat sailing to Aton, Petralona cave, etc.
