Tsokonitsa

Tsokonitsa is a village in Mezdra Municipality, District of Vratsa.
It stands about 16 km north-east of the town of Mezdra, about 30 km eats of the town of Vratsa and about 113 km north-east of the capital of Sofia.
The village is situated in Stara Planina Mountains, at an altitude 447 m.
Climate is characterized with warm summers and cold winters.
The village population is about 90 residents. There are shuttles to the town of Mezdra twice a week. The village has a Mayor viceroyalty and grocery store.
Medical services to the village residents are provided by doctors in the village of Gorna Kremena /about 10 km south-west/.
The closest kindergarten, schools and hospital are in the town of Mezdra.

Cherepish Monastery 'The Assumption' is located about 20 km away from the village of Tsakonitsa. It is one or the most remarkable christian monuments in the gorge of River Iskar. Situated at the very riverbank, surrounded by majestic inaccessible cliffs, this monastery for centuries has played a central role of a cultural and spiritual center of the region.
