Chala is a village in southern Bulgaria. It is located in Borino Municipality, Smolyan region.

It is 64 km northwest from the town of Smolyan, 9 km south from the village of Borino, 22 km southeast from the town of Dospat, nearly 31 km southwest from the town of Devin and 229 km southeast from the city of Sofia.
Regular bus service connects it with neighbouring towns.

Located in the Western Rhodope Mountain at an altitude of 1450 m. Climate is characterized by lower summer temperatures and heavy rainfall, snow cover stays relatively long.

The village population is about 200 people. The main occupation is farming.

There is a town hall, mosque board, shop and cafe. Available to residents is a doctor. In the village of Borino there is a school. Nearest kindergarten and hospital are in the town of Dospat.

 

SIGHTSEEINGS AND ATTRACTIONS

Mount Videnitsa / Gyoztepe/ - 1652 m is 3 km away. At the top you can see megaliths and ancient walls, evidence of Thracian pagan rituals. During archaeological excavations in 1930 a marble head of the Empress Julia Paula was found.

Jagodinska cave / 20 km /  is one of the one hundred tourist sites. With its 10,500 meters. It is the third longest in Bulgaria and the longest in the Rhodope Mountain.

Trigrad Gorge / 22 km / - overall length is 7 km, but the actual gorge is 2-3 km. The third longest in Bulgaria after Buynovsko gorge and Gorge Tran.

Another interesting sightseeing is cave "Devil's Throat" / 24 km /. Called a "phenomenon" of the Rhodope Mountains, the cave was formed due to tectonic movements. In the past, this unique natural phenomenon has given rise to many legends. One of them said that here Orpheus descends into the underworld of Hades to rescue his beloved Eurydice.
