Chernooki is a village in Southern Bulgaria. It is part of the municipality of Krumovgrad, Kardzhali Region.

It is located about 19 km south-east of Krumovgrad and in the same direction respectively 66 and 307 km of the town of Kardzhali and the capital Sofia city. The village of Pelin is located at 11 km in the north-west.

Chernooki is located in a mountainous area at an altitude about 420 m. The climat is transitive - Mediterranean, which determines the mild winter and long, hot summer.

The village of Chernooki is located in the close proximity of one of the busiest roads in Bulgaria - II 59 Momchilgrad - Krumovgrad - Ivaylovgrad, which is one of Southern Bulgaria’s major thoroughfares.

The population is about 70 people.

Chernooki has relatively good infrastructure - the roads are in good condition, the village has electricity and water supply systems, all mobile operators have coverage. The village is served by regular bus transport.

The nearest kindergarten is in the village of Pelin. Primary schools you can find in the neighboring villages of Guliyka and Belopoltsi, located at 14 km respectively in the south-west and south-east, and the nearest secondary school is located in Krumovgrad. Specialized medical care town can be obtained on the territory of the municipal town.

LANDMARKS AND TOURISM

Near the village of Perunika /10 km in the north/, on a steep hill named Dzheneve, a medieval fortress was found. Around the fortress were found coins, fragments of medieval pottery and a couple of iron objects. Under the fort there is a perennial spring.

In the neighboring village of Rogach /14 km north-west of Chernooki/ is situated the Rock tomb - sanctuary, locatedon a cliff on the right bank of the River Krumovitsa. This archaeological site is revered by locals as sacred as there are the two small holes on the rocks resembling human steps, which are called “The steps of Ali" (a Muslim saint).

The area Ilia's field is located 28 north-east of Chernooki, in the village of Glumovo. A memorial to honour the 40000 Thracian refugees who died there, was built. The memorial consists of a chapel, a monument and a fountain and is used annually as the location of the National Youth Thracian fest - Thracian child's day, held every year on 1st June - the International Day for the Protection of Children.

The close proximity of Chernooki to the municipal center allows the sightseeing of a lot of sites of importance for the historical and cultural heritage of the region such as:

• Remains of a fortifying wall, part of the foundations of a firtified village. 

• The mosque "Seytlyar dzhamisi", believed to be one of the main reasons for the existence of the town and surrounding villages. 

• A museum collection, including over 2000 exhibits, located in a house , declared to be a cultural monument.
