Chuprene is a village in northwestern Bulgaria. It is the administrative center of the municipality of Chuprene, Vidin region.

The village is located 20 km south of the town of Belogradchik, 76 km southwest of the town of Vidin and 153 km north-west of Sofia city.

It is situated at the foot of Balkan Mountains with an average altitude of 450 m. The area is picturesque, crossed by two rivers, mostly with oak and conifer forests. The climate is temperate-continental, typical of mountain areas, with warm days and cool nights.

The population numbers about 535 people.

The village has a primary school, a kindergarten, a GP and a dentist.

The majority of the streets are paved, the village has electricity and water.

 


Landmarks and Tourism: 

The village of Chuprene is suitable for recreation and fishing.

Here were found artifacts dating from the Bronze Age and the Roman times.

Chuprene's landmarks include: the clock tower in the center of the village, church and museum "Assen Balkanski".

"Glamite" - natural hills, formed thousands of years ago of rocks, throw on the one end and elevate on the other.

There are two rivers passing through the village - Manastirka and Chuprenska River. Manastirka flows into Chuprenska river in the village. The upper part of the village is divided into two of the watershed of the two streams.

There is a fountain about 4-5 km up the road to Chuprenska river. It is called "Partizan cheshma".

These roads lead to Bekinska shobarka area where are located a source of ice-cold water, villas and an entry point of Chuprene biosphere reserve, which is under protection of UNESCO.

The proximity of the village to Vidin and Belogradchik makes it perfect place for staying and visiting the various cultural and historical sites in these two towns.
