Dazhdovnik is a village in Southern Bulgaria. It is part of the municipality of Krumovgrad, Kardzhali Region.

Dazhdovnik is located 6 km south-east of the town of Krumovgrad, and respectively 54 and 294 km in the same direction of the regional center Kardzhali and the capital - Sofia city.

The village is situated in a mountainous region at an altitude about 260 m. The climate is transitional Mediterranean, the winter is mild and the summer - long and hot.

The population of the village is about 60 people.

The close proximity of Krumovgrad determines the good infrastructure of Vransko - the streets are paved, the village has electricity and water supply systems, all mobile operators have coverage, regular bus transport connects the village with the municipality central town.

The nearest school and kindergarten are located in Krumovgrad. This is where one can obtain medical help as well. There are two medical centers on the territory of the town - one multiprofile hospital for active treatment and a medical center.

 

LANDMARKS AND TOURISM

Near the village is situated the Yamur Baba's turban - that is a saint revered by the local Muslims. It represents abuilding with symbolic grave where people pray.

In the neighboring village of Rogach / 5 km east of Dazhdovnik / is situated the Rock tomb - sanctuary, locatedon a cliff on the right bank of the River Krumovitsa. This archaeological site is revered by locals as sacred as there are the two small holes on the rocks resembling human steps, which are called “The steps of Ali" (a Muslim saint).

The area Ilia's field is located 33 north-east of Dazhdovnik, in the village of Glumovo. A memorial to honour the 40000 Thracian refugees who died there, was built. The memorial consists of a chapel, a monument and a fountain and is used annually as the location of the National Youth Thracian fest - Thracian child's day, held every year on 1st June - the International Day for the Protection of Children.

In the area of the village of Oreshari /31 km in the north/ is located the picturesque place "Oreshari" declared protected in order to preserve therare flora and fauna species that inhabit it. There are many archaeological sites in the area as well, some of which have historical importance. Such are:

  • Medieval rock monastery "Reverend Martin’s hole”, declared a cultural monument of national importance;
  • Thracian rock niches, also declared a cultural monument;
  • Caves in the "Bridge" area /The Six caves / - natural landmark included in the list of the 250 most famous caves in Bulgaria

Only 17 km in the south, in the village of Avren, you can see the chirch "St. Nicolaus Wondermaker", the chapel built on the place of the destroyed chirch in the area Selishteto, as well as the Monument in honour of the perished during the Balkan war.
