Gradets is a village in northwestern Bulgaria, located in Vidin municipality, Vidin Region.

In Bulgaria there are two more villages with the same name - in Kostinbrod municipality, Sofia District and Kotel municipality, Sliven District.

Gradets is the largest village in Vidin municipality. It lies in the valley of the river Topolovets. It is 10 km northwest of Vidin, 135 km from Vratsa and about 206 km from Sofia in the same direction.

The terrain is flat and the altitude is 87 meters. The climate is characterized by relatively cold winters and hot summers.

The village has electricity and water. Most of the streets are paved. There is a functioning street lights, mobile coverage and transportation to Vidin and the surrounding villages.

The population of Gradets is around 1360 people.

The village has a town hall, a church, a pharmacy, a post office, a kindergarten, a community center with a folk dance cast, a park, a soccer field, restaurants and shops. Two GPs and a dentist take care of the locals's health. There are primary and secondary schools, as well as specialized medical care in the city of Vidin.

Landmarks and tourism

The first name of the village is Urumlar (reports of it date back to the XV century), then it was known as Greeks, and in 1984 received its current Gradets.

Near the village, about 6 km west are the ruins of Albotin rock monastery which was active in the 13-14 century, and in 1927 was declared a cultural monument.

In Vidin one can visit: The Castle Baba Vida, the Turkish konak /police office/ Koluka, turned into a museum, the mosque and library of Osman Pazvantoglu, the Ethnographic Museum Krustata kazarma, Stambol Kapiya and many other cultural and architectural monuments, which the city is famous for.
