Harlets is a village in northwestern Bulgaria. It is located in the Kozloduy municipality, Vratsa District.

The village lies on the left bank of Ogosta river, 12 km southeast of Kozloduy town, 19 km southwest of Oryahovo town, about 70 kilometers northeast of Vratsa and approximately 180 km of Sofia city in the same direction.

The terrain is flat and slightly hilly with an average altitude of 54 meters. Climate is temperate continental with cold winters and hot summers.

The village has electricity and water, coverage of all mobile operators, cable TV and Internet.
The transport network is excellent - bus lines connect the settlement with Kozloduy, Vratza and Sofia.
3 km away from the center of the village is built the first nuclear power station in the Balkans.

Harlets is a big and well developed village with around 2250 people population. There is a town hall, a church, built in 1884 and still existing, a library, an elementary school, a kindergarten, a medical and information center and shops. The majority of the streets in the village are paved. There is an operating streetlights.

The settlement has a general practitioner and a dentist. Specialized assistance can be obtained in any of the medical centers in Kozloduy.

 

Landmarks and tourism

Harlets is a nice place to live and relax with conditions for rural tourism. The dams of Korea, Rogozen and Tihov lag located on its three sides are suitable for fishing.

The village is famous for its folk customs and rites. The local fair is being celebrated on 21st of November 21.

Harlets area has a rich history and numerous historical monuments. You can visit:

  • The national archaeological reserve of Augusta located in Kaleto area, ​​5 km north. The reserve was declared a cultural monument. The earliest remains registered are from the late Bronze Age, and the first settlement was at the time of the Thracians. Excavations have revealed the remains of a fortress with three gates and thirteen towers.
  • The national History Museum of Kozloduy - steamer Radetzky branch. The ship is the only floating museum in the Balkans.
  • Remains of Holy Trinity medieval monastery in Monastery area, not far from Harlets. The access is limited, as it is on the territory of the nuclear power station.
