Kapitanovtsi is a village in northwestern Bulgaria, located in the municipality of Vidin, Vidin District.

It is located only 10 km northeast of the city of Vidin, 1.5 km from the nearest village Pokrayna and around 200 km northwest of Sofia.

The climate is temperate continental with relatively cold winters and hot summers. Altitude reaches 43 m.

The village has electricity and water. The majority of the streets are paved. There are street lights, mobile coverage and regular buses to Vidin and the surrounding villages.

Kapitanovtsi has population of around 1120 people.

In the center of the village is the town hall, the community center, the park and the square. Nearby is the church of the Holy Trinity, which is the second largest in the region after the Vidin cathedral Sveti Dimitar. The interesting thing about it is that it combines Catholic and Orthodox style.

The children in the village attend the located in Vidin primary and secondary schools. The nearest kindergarten is in Pokrayna. In Kapitanovtsi there is a general practitioner and two dentists who take care of people's health. Medical centers of Vidin offer specialized assistance.

Landmarks and tourism

Danube River provides opportunities for recreation and fishing. It is located less than 6 km southeast of the village.

In Vidin attractive for tourists are: the Baba Vida fortress, dating from the 10th century and related to the defense of the city during the Middle Ages, the Kaleto fortress, the Cruciform barracks with ethnographic exhibition, the Turkish Konak Koluka, the Mosque and the library of Osman Pazvantaglu, the cathedral Sveti Dimitar, the Mausoleum of the first Bulgarian Exarch Antim I and others.
