Katunitsa is a village in Southern Bulgaria, part of Municipality of Sadovo, District of Plovdiv.

It stands about 13 km south-east from the town of Plovdiv, about 9 km south-west from the town of Sadovo and about 11 km north from the town of Asenovgrad.

The village population is about 2380 residents.

The relief is lowland, with average altitude of 164 m..
The climate is continental, characterized with soft and rainy winters and hot summers.

The village infrastructure includes asphalted and lighted streets, full electrification, water supply system, partial sewerage system, mobile operators’ coverage, telephones, Internet and cable TV.

A secondary road passes about 10 km north-west, and European route E 80 is about 9 km north-east.

There is regular transport, connecting Katunitsa with the towns of Sadovo and Plovdiv, as well as with the smaller settlements. There is a railway station in the village.

The village residents dispose of a town house, post office, primary school, kindergarten, community center, park, stadium and church. Katunitsa has a network of retail outlets and restaurants.

There is a health service in Katunitsa, as well as a pharmacy.

The region is with developed agriculture. There is manufacture for dried products, factory processing of cherries and distillery.

Tourism and cultural attraction

Chaya River passes through the village, and flows into Maritsa River.

The closeness of Katunitsa to the town of Plovdiv and the Rodopi Mountains gives opportunities for mountain tourism, as well as for visiting historical attractions as the Old Town of Plovdiv, the Roman amphitheatre, Asen's Fortress and Bachkovo Monastery.

Asen’s Fortress is of great interest, as the symbol of Asenovgrad, located only 12 km away from Katunitsa. Preserved there stand part of the walls and "Saint Mary Petrichka"church- an amazing memorial of the old Bulgarian architecture.

Bachkovo Monastery, located at about 20 km away is the second in size monastery in Bulgaria. It is one of the 100 most preferred tourist and cultural destinations inBulgaria, because of its historical value.
