Kayaloba is a village in Southern Bulgaria. It is located in the municipality of Kirkovo, Kardzhali Region.

The village is located 20 km north-west of Kirkovo, 48 km south-west of Kardzhali, 20 km in the south-east of Zlatograd, about 6 km south-west of the village of Benkovski and about 299 km south-east of the capital Sofia city.

The population is about 205 people.

The village is situated in the Eastern Rhodopes, at an altitude of 647 m. The climate is transitive-Meditteranean with relatively mild winters and long and hot summers.

The village of Kayaloba is well-developed, with good transportation links, there are water- and electricity supply systems. All the mobile operators have coverage.

There is a mosque here. The nearest community center is located in the village of Mogilyane /2 km in the north-east/. Kindergarten, secondary school, as well as two GPs you can find in the village of Benkovski. Health center you can find in the village of Kirkovo and the nearest general hospital is located in the town of Zlatograd.

TOURISM

In the village of Кayaloba there are a few parnars - evergreen oak, relict spieces with Meditteranean origins, included in Bulgaria's Red Book as the only representattive of the spieces in the region.

The rock phenomenon "The Elephant" is situated here as well. The rock is believed to have miraculous effects on health of children with patterns and other diseases.

There are plenty of culture monuments that represent all ages from Thracian times on in the region. Such are the Roman bridge and the Rocky mushrooms near the village of Dobromirtsi /8 km in the north/ and the Rock niches in the village of Rastnik /8 km in the north-east/.

In the village of Benkovski you can see a few sites:

  • the renovated mosque in the center of the village where Muslims from all over the region gather to pray;
  • the venerable oak, over 200 years old, declared protected;
  • a Thracian rock tomb in Veslets heighbourhood - carved in a rocky massive, with a semicircular shape. Today, there is a hole in the dome and it is honoured by the local people as a squeeze. After passing through the bushes aro  und the stone they tie threads around to leave the disease there;
  • a rocky area, where the elements have for centuries carved the huge stones in a variety of bizarre rock forms of animals and plants, the most interesting of which are "The Crocodile", "The Mushroom", "Lion's Head", etc.

About 25 km in the south-east, in the area of the villages of Chakalarovo, Dolno and Gorno kapinovoShumnatitsaand Kremen, is situated the protected area Gyumyurdzhinski snezhnik. There are primary sycamor, beech and beech-fir forests over 150 years old preserved here. Many of the spieces are even older - 300-400 years. 11 plant spieces are included in Bulgaria's Red book.

The sites on the town of Zlatograd are also quite interesting for tourists:

  • Ethnographic complex Zlatograd - a large open-air museum that shows how the city used to look like centuries ago. There are many buildings and objects that reveal and reflect the nature, geographical features and rich long history of Zlatograd;
  • Delio Voyvoda's monument, built on the site where, according to the legend, the notorious Bulgarian rebel was shot dead;
  • "Virgin Mary's Assumption" church,  built in 1834 on the ruins of another church (destroyed by the Turks around 1722) - one of the oldest churches in the Middle Rhodope Mountains. In the courtyard of the temple is preserved a unique schurch school.
