Koshava is a village in Northwestern Bulgaria. It is a part of Vidin municipality, Vidin District.

It is situated on the bank of the Danube river, about 19 km northeast of Vidin, 6 km from the nearest village Slanotran in the same direction and approximately 217 km northwest of Sofia.

The climate is temperate continental with relatively cold winters and hot summers. Altitude reaches 38 m.

The village has electricity and water. The majority of the streets are paved, there is mobile coverage and buses to Vidin and surrounding settlements.

Koshava's population is about 400 people.

In the village center are the town hall, the church, which is one of the oldest in the area /built in 1860/, the grocery store and the square. The school is closed. Children attend the primary and secondary schools in Vidin. The nearest kindergarten is located in the village of Pokrayna /15 km southwest/. There is a dentist in Koshava and a general practitioner - in Slanotran. The medical centers of Vidin offer specialized assistance.
On the outskirts of the village is Gypsum Koshava mine.

Landmarks and tourism

Along the riverbank south of the village are the remains of the Roman fortress Ad Marum. Nearby is situated the island Koshava.

Danube River provides opportunities for recreation and fishing. Famous beaches are "Ostrova" (Kikinete) with its golden and soft sand and "Ribarite".

In Vidin attractive for tourists are: the Baba Vida fortress, dating from the X century, related to the defense of the city during the Middle Ages, the Kale fortress, the Cruciform barracks with an ethnographic exhibition, the Turkish Konak "Koluka", the Mosque and the library of Osman Pazvantaglu, the Sveti Dimitar cathedral, the Mausoleum of the first Bulgarian Exarch Antim I and others.

A curious fact is that Koshava island, located off Livingston Island, South Shetland Islands was named in honor of the village Koshava.
