Malak Preslavets is a village in North-eastern Bulgaria. It is part of Glavinitsa Municipality, Silistra Region.

Location

It is 19 km south of Glavinitsa, 47 km west of Silistra, 85 km in the same direction of Ruse and 180 km north-west of Varna.

It nestles in the eastern part of the Danube hilly plain, at 100 - 150 m above the sea level. Its population is approximately 300 people.

History

The region of Malak Preslavets is rich of historical and cultural monuments - inheritors of different epochs and civilizations. On the vertical banks of Danube River, between Malak Preslavets and Vetren, were found ceramic tools connected with the primitive inhabitants.

Economics

Agriculture is the main means of living of the population. Growing of grain crops, tobacco and fruit trees is well-developed.

Places of interest

Village of Malak Preslavets is a protected area with unique flora - marsh with water-lilies, surrounded by dense forests. The village comprises a port on Danube River, which is used by fishermen. The region is in process of renovation at the moment. Envisaged are new roads, illumination, advertisements and tourism investments. The road leading to the marsh is going to be renovated as well. The eco-path leading there is easily accessible during summer, and no special equipment is needed.

'Malak Preslavets Marsh' is protected area in the village. It is situated 4 km in northern direction, next to Danube River. Srebarna Reserve is about 30 km away. The marsh is food centre for herons, glossy ibises, fallow deer, cormorants and other nestling birds in the reserve. It neighbours agricultural lands on the east, a forest on the south, a dike separating it from the river on the west, and an asphalt road leading to the village and the port on the north. The marsh is the biggest Bulgarian colony of European white waterlily. It is declared natural landmark.

The village is with good opportunities for developing of biological agriculture, rural and ecological tourism. The combination of rich century-old history and amazing nature make the place preferred for recreation. Many foreigners had bought houses in the village (more than 30).

Infrastructure

About 7 km away is village of Zafirovo, where is located a Historical Museum, established in 1987 on the community management initiative. The historical museum systematizes the information about the most important historical objects and events in the region.

There are two community centres in Malak Preslavets. There are singing and dancing groups presenting many Bulgarian traditions.

There is one Home for Children Deprived of Parental Care.

Transport

Regular bus transportation serves the village. Once a day comes a bus from town of Silistra. There are busses each hour from towns of Ruse and Silistra to village of Zafirovo (9 km away of Malak Preslavets).
