Poroy is a village in East Bulgaria. It is situated in Pomorie municipality, Burgas region.

It is 50 km north of the town of Burgas, 30 km north of the town of Pomorie, 15 km northwest of the town of Nesebar and about 440 km east of the capital Sofia.

In proximity to Hadzhiiska river and Poroy dam. Its altitude is about 90 m.
The climate in the village is temperate and is strongly influenced by Black sea. It is characterized by mild winter while the summer is hot with average July temperature about 24˚C.

The permanent population is about 917 people. A couple of foreign families also own properties in the village.

Regular bus transportation connects the village of Poroy to the sea resort of Sunny beach, Nesebar, Burgas and Pomorie.

In the village there is completely constructed water and electricity systems. All mobile operators have coverage, also there is Internet connection and cable TV are available. There are working a couple of stores for all goods, pubs and guest houses. In Poroy are functioning primary school, kindergarten, town hall and community center. The medical assistance is taken by one GP. The nearest hospital is in the town of Pomorie.

The tourists that visit Poroy can visit the following landmarks in the area:

  • The church "Preobrazhenie Gosposdne" in the town of Pomorie - it is one of  the oldest and was finished in 1765.
  • The monastery "St George" is the only working monastery for men in the Southeast Bulgaria. 
  • The reserve Pomoriiski kashti is complex of houses that were constructed in XIX c. in typical Renaissance style.
  • Poroy dam offers good conditions for fishing.
  • Nesebar - it is declared for architectural and archaeological reserve.

 

The village is preferred destination for tourists that are looking for peace and quietness, far from the noise of the big cities.
