Shemshevo is a village in North Bulgaria. It is located in Veliko Tarnovo municipality, Veliko Tarnovo region.

It is about 9 km west of the city of Veliko Tarnovo, 33 km north of the town of Dryanovo, 190 km northeast of the city of Plovdiv, 232 km west of the city of Varna, 277 km northwest of the city of Burgas, 116 km north of the city of Stara Zagora, 238 km east of the city of Sofia, 3 km from Hemus highway.

Its altitude is about 236 m. Through the land of Shemshevo flows Yantra river. The climate is characterized with warm summer but with no severely hot weather, cold winter and also there are not prolonged and severe colds. There are many long periods of dry weather especially in the months July, August and September. Lots of precipitation falls in the beginning of summer - the months May and June.

The population is about 528 people. Shemshevo is well maintained village. The access to it is through an asphalt road. Regular bus transportation connects it with the municipality Veliko Tarnovo - bus line №6.

In the village are working coffee shops, stores, post office, community center "Napredak", library, church "St Dimitar", kindergarten, primary school. The nearest hospital is in the municipality.

Tourism and landmarks

The area is with rich forest species that preserved in himself large game. In the south part of the village there are nice forests from different trees with option for hunting parties. The area is suitable for relaxation and peace. In the region there are many small villages that preserved its their unique view these are Ledenik, architectural and historical complex Arbanasi etc., in which there is organized cultural and village tourism.

Yantra river offers convenient places for fishing. Just 43 km west of Shemshevo is Aleksander Stamboliiski dam, 30 km in the same direction and a couple of small dams.

The show "Sound and Light" that merges sound, church bells, light effects and speech in one and is historical retelling of the events that led to the rise and fall of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom. Another very interesting landmark is Tsarevets hill one of the 100 tourist sites and is located in the center of the town, it is a hill with 5000 years history - it was main fortification and Aristocratic quarter of the former Second Bulgarian Kingdom, Balduin tower. The two international festivals of the folklore that are organized July each year, there are gathered musicians, singers and dancers from all over the world.

Just 15 km west of the village of Shemshevo can be visited Arbanashki monasteries "St Bogoroditsa" and "St Nikolay Chudotvorets" (Arbanasi is one of the 100 National Tourist Sites) where are preserved three magical icons.

15 east is the village of Shemshevo in Lyaskovets is located the unique Museum of Gurbetchiiskoto gardening.

Prisovskiyat monastery "St Archangel Michael" is just 16 km southwest of the village of Shemshevo.

Just 17 km north of Shemshevo is located Preobrazhenski monastery "St Preobrazhenie Gospodne" - the left bank of Yantra river, in Derventskiya prolom fourth largest in Bulgaria.

17 km north of the village is located Patriarsheskiyat monastery "St Troitsa" that is on the right shore of Yantra river.

20 km northeast is Gornooryahovski monastery "St Prorok Iliya".
