Shirokovo is a village in the Central part of Northern Bulgaria. It is part of Dve mogili Municipality, Ruse Region.

It is 44 km south from the centre of Ruse, 10 km south-east from Dve mogili, 20 km north-east from Borovo, 280 km in the same direction from Sofia and 191 km north-west from Varna. Regular bus transportation goes to Ruse and Dve mogili.

The population is approximately 80 people.

The village spreads out the Danube plain, in the picturesque canyon of Rusenski Lom Natural Park. The sea altitude is 100 m. It nestles in Cherni Lom river valley, surrounded by high rocks. The climate is humid continental and characterizes with hot summer and cold winter.

Shirokovo is one of the smallest villages in Ruse Region. It is very beautiful and tranquil. The village is provided with electricity, water and communication equipment. Health services and education centres are available in the municipal centre - Dve mogili (10 km away).

LANDMARKS AND TOURISM

Place of interest is the local church 'St Archangel Michael', built in 1881. It was renovated in 2008.

You can see the monument of the Chernovodska band's voivode - Varban Yordanov, who was killed in 1875, in the centre of the village. In the 80's his bones were put here as well.

Only 4 km away is the second longest cave in Bulgaria - Orlova chuka. The cave attracts tourists from the whole country.

You can also visit Ivanovski rock churches near village of Ivanovo, and the house-museum of Philip Totyo in town of Dve mogili.

Cherni lom River is convenient for fishing - carassius, European chub, barbel, carp, etc.
