Slivarka is a village in Southern Bulgaria. It is part of the municipality of Krumovgrad, Kardzhali Region.

It is located about 7 km south-east of Krumovgrad and in the same direction at about 55 and 296 km of the town of Kardzhali and the capital Sofia city.

It is located in a mountainous area at an altitude about 290 m. The climate is transitive - Mediterranean, which determines the mild winter and long, hot summer.

The population is about 350 people.

The village of Slivarka is located just one kilometer away from one of the busiest roads in Bulgaria - II 59 Momchilgrad - Krumovgrad - Ivaylovgrad, which is one of Southern Bulgaria’s major thoroughfares.

The close proximity to main road II 59 determines the relatively good infrastructure - most of the streets are paved, the village has electricity and water supply systems, all mobile operators have coverage. The village is served by bus transport.

There are a shop and a cafe here. The nearest primary school and community center are located in the neighboring village of Guliyka/ 4 km in the east / and the nearest secondary school and kindergarten are located in the municipal center Krumovgrad. Specialized medical care town can be obtained on the territory of the municipal town as well - in the general hospital or the health center.

 

LANDMARKS AND TOURISM

There are two microdams in the close proximity of the village - "Slivarka 1" and "Slivarka 2", which have extremely clean water and are suitable for fishing.

In the neighboring village of Rogach located 3 km west of Slivarka, is situated the Rock tomb - sanctuary, locatedon a cliff on the right bank of the River Krumovitsa. This archaeological site is revered by locals as sacred as there are the two small holes on the rocks resembling human steps, which are called “The steps of Ali" (a Muslim saint).

At about 16 km north of Slivarka, in the area of the village of Dzhanka, you can see one of the waterfalls of the River Dushan dere, declared to be a natural landmark. This is "The Waterfall" - the highest of the protected waterfalls on Kardzhali Region.

Only 10 km north-east of Slivarka, close to the village of Chal, can be seen one more protected waterfall - "The Dairy", located on the River Tashbunar dere.

The culture monuments located in the town of Krumovgrad are also interesting for tourists:

  •  remains of a wall, part of the foundations of a fortified settlement;
  • The mosque "Seytlyar dzhamisi", built in 1855 on the foundations of an old wooden mosque from XVI - XVIII century and is believed to be one of the main reasons for the existence of the town and surrounding villages; 
  • A museum collection, including over 2000 exhibits, located in a house, declared to be a cultural monument.
