Vardim is a village in northern Bulgaria. It is located in the municipality of Svishtov, District Veliko Turnovo.

It is situated 10 km east of Svishtov, 82 km north of Veliko Tarnovo, 37 km northwest of the town of Byala, 240 km northwest of Varna and 246 km northeast of the capital Sofia .

The altitude of the village is 40 meters and it is situated on the right bank of the Danube. The climate is temperate with hot summers and very cold winters. Typical are frequent and persistent fog.

The population numbers about 1108 inhabitants. There are regular bus route to the town of Svishtov - Ruse, and regular bus transport to the town of Svishtov. Access to the village is done by apshlat road. It has electricity and water supply.

There are a town hall, post office, community center with playground, library, shops, kindergarten, elementary school "Stefan Karadja" Youth Club for training and information, scientific basis for fast growing tree species in the village. Medical care is covered by a general practitioner and the nearest hospital is located in the town of Svishtov. The main livelihood of the local population is agriculture.

In October 2009, Vardim received the "gold seal" for a unique European settlement. It became a member of the official representation of unique settlements in Europe, after being nominated by 160 prominent Bulgarian scientists and artists of international acclaim.

The village has the same name with the third largest island in Bulgaria - island Vardim, which is a protected area of ​​the European ecological network "Natura 2000". The island is located 300 m north of the village.

Landmarks and tourism:

The area is suitable for recreation and relaxation. Danube offers comfortable seating for fishing. The village is famous reserve for rare birds on the island. Here are found populations of cormorants, herons, white spoonbill and another 21 species of endangered national bird. Here nests and the largest bird - the sea eagle. The island grows  unique type of oak -Vardim's one.

By island Vardim there are two smaller islands known as the Small Vardim and Haidushki island. Around the islands during the summer months to form beautiful sand bars at low water of the river, suitable for summer tourism.

East of the village, in the "Yankovo ​​Throat" area on June 18, 1868 the detachment of Hadzhi Dimitar and Stefan Karadzha set foot on Bulgarian soil. A monument was built in the place.

In Svishtov tourists can visit the ancient town of Nove (excavations of Roman military residence), the home of Aleko Konstantinov, the church "Holy Trinity", the clock tower monastery "Pokrov" many houses.
