Yavornitsa is a village in southwestern Bulgaria. It is located in Petrich Municipality, Blagoevgrad region.
The village is located about 17 km southwest from the town of Petrich, 97 km away from the town of Blagoevgrad, 197 south from the capital Sofia, about 10 km southeast from the border with Macedonia - checkpoint Zlatarevo and 33 km northwest from the border with Greece - Kulata village.
Yavornitsa is located south from the river Yavornishka at the northern foot of Mount Belasitsa - an area known as Podgorie. The lowest parts of the village have been at 190 meters altitude and the highest are located close to the mountain at 500 meters.
The climate is transitional Mediterranean with hot summer and mild winter.
The population is approximately 890 people.
Yavornitsa is well developed village - a primary school, city hall, community center, a small stadium, two churches and a chapel. Sewing work shop, shop. Visitors to the village can stay in a cozy family hotel. The nearest nursery and a medical center are located in Petrich.
Tourism and Attractions
In the land of the village were discovered archaeological remains from the times of Antiquity and Middle Ages. In "Grako chuka" area north of the village is located Thracian necropolis of 8 mounds from the late Iron Age period.
Yavornitsa is the preferred starting point for hiking trails in the park "Belasitsa".
