Zamfirovo is a village in Northwestern Bulgaria, part of Berkovitsa municipality and Montana region.

It is located in the Fore, about 18 km northeast of Berkovitsa, at the same distance southwest of Montana and approximately 95 km northwest of Sofia.

The terrain is hilly with an average altitude of 286 m. Climate is temperate, characterized by snowy winters, hot summers and rainy springs and autumns.

The village is one of the largest in the area. It has electricity and water. Most of the streets are paved and lighted. There is coverage of all mobile operators. There are regular buses to the municipality center and the surrounding villages.

Zamfirovo has a population of about 1300 people.

The village has a town hall, an orthodox chapel, a kindergarten, an elementary school, a functioning community center with a brass band, a folk dance band and a singing group, shops and a stadium. A general practitioner takes care of the people's health. Cities of Berkovitsa and Montana have specialized medical care.

Landmarks and tourism

Until 1947 the village was named Gushantsi. Five small rivers pass through the area of the village and gather in the biggest one. The temple was built in 1864 by master Sando from Koprivshtitsa. He and his father carved the royal doors and painted icons.

Zamfirovo is near the dam lakes of Konyarevo and Rekata, which are suitable for fishing.
The conditions of tourism are very good:

  • Approximately 24 km northwest is located the Lopushan monastery, restored and impressing with its beautiful architecture.
  • In Berkovitsa guests can explore the house-museum "Ivan Vazov", the situated nearby Architectural Museum of Culture and the Clock Tower, which is a remarkable monument, built in 1762.
  • At about 30 km southeast of Borovtsi is Varshets, a spa resort with mineral springs and beautiful nature. The water treats diseases of the heart, the nervous system and the musculoskeletal system.
