Zvanarka is a village in Southern Bulgaria. It is located in the municipality of Krumovgrad, Kardzhali Region.

It is situated 5 km south-west of Krumovgrad, 52 km south-east of Kardzhali and approximately 293 in the same direction of the capital Sofia city.

The village is located in an area with mountainous relief at an altitude of about 400 m. It is part of the transitive-Mediterranean climat zone, winters are relatively mild and summers are long and hot.

The population of Zvanarka is about 535 people.

Zvanarka has relatively good infrastructure - most of the streets are paved, there are electricity and watter supply systems, all mobile operators have coverage. Bus transport connects the village with the surrounding villages.

There are a town hall, a mosque, a primary school, a kindergarten, a shop and a cafe in the village. The nearest secondary school is located in Krumovgrad. Medical help can be obtained again there - in the town function a general hospital and a health center.

The main crop which is grown by the population is tobacco. Stockbreeding is well developed as well.

 

LANDMARKS AND TOURISM

Only 9 km in the north-east is located the Rock Tomb - sanctuary, situated near the village of Rogach. The archaeological site is located on the right bank of the River Krumovitsa. The place is known as Guyo (or Kuyo) and is revered by local people as sacred. There are two small deep holes on the cliffs. The holes resemble human steps and are called "The steps of Ali" /a Muslim saint/.

A lot of sites of importance for the historical and cultural heritage of the region can be visited in Krumovgrad. The medieval nave church in the central part of Krumovgrad is particularly interesting. The church was built by monumental stones soldered with plaster.

The mosque "Seytlyar dzhamisi" is also an interesting site. The mosque was built in 1855 on the foundations of an old wooden mosque from XVI - XVIII century and is believed to be one of the main reasons for the existence of the town and surrounding villages.

A museum collection, including over 2000 exhibits, divided into departments Archaeology, History and Ethnography, is located in a house , declared to be a cultural monument.

The most significant event in the region which attracts not only people from the surrounding villages but also a lot of tourists is the traditional culture fest "The lights of Krumovgrad", held annually on the eve of 24th May.
