Borovitsa is a village in Southern Bulgaria. It is part of the municipality of Ardino, Kardzhali Region.
There is one more village with the same name in Bulgaria - in Belogradchik municipality, Vidin Region.
The village is situated 27 km north-east of the town of Ardino, about 30 km west of the regional center Kardzhali , 72 km south-west of Haskovo, 123 km south-east of Plovdiv and about 292 km southeast of the capital Sofia city.
The population of the village is about 370 people.
Borovitsa is located in a mountainous area at an altitude about 590 m. The climate is moderate Mediterranean with mild and wet winters and dry and hot summers.
At about 4 km of the village is situated the Kardzhali Dam.
The village of Borovitsa has good transport connections, electricity and water supply systems. There are a town hall, a school, a community center, а doctor and а dentist. The nearest general hospital and kindergarten are located in Ardino.
TOURISM
The Kardzhali dam, one of the largest dams in the country, is a wonderful place to relax in the nature and to practice different kinds of water sports in the summer. There are a few hotels, villas and restaurants nearby which offer excellent conditions for tourists from the country and abroad.
Very interesting for the tourists are the floating pontoons-restaurants offering a rich fish menu. There are also jets, water wheels and water skiing. There is a modern rowing base built-up nearby.
Fishing here is quite well developed as the dam offers a great assortment of fish - carp, catfish, tolostolob, zander, perch, commonrudd and other kinds.
At about 48 km of the village is located the medieval complex Perperikon which is part of the 100 National Tourist sites and represents a large megalith sanctuary.
