Parvomay is a village in South-western Bulgaria, part of Petrich Municipality, Blagoevgrad region.

There is another settlement in Bulgaria with the same name - town of Parvomay (Parvomay Municipality, Plovdiv region).

Village of Parvomay is 86 km south-west from town of Blagoevgrad, 6 km west from town of Petrich, 22 km north-west from the Bulgarian-Greek border at village of Kulata and 16 km east from the Bulgarian-Macedonian border at Zlatarevo checkpoint.

The main road to Zlatarevo checkpoint passes through the village. Regular bus transportation to the municipal town which comprises a railway station as well.

The village spreads out the Petrichko-Sandanska valley, at its lowest part between Belasitsa and Ograzhden Mountains. The sea altitude is 118 m. Strumeshnitsa River passes near the village. It flows into Struma River.

The climate is transitional Mediterranean and suitable for growing any kinds of fruit, vegetables, fruit trees and some subtropical plants. Winter is mild and summer - hot.

Parvomay is among the latest towns and villages in Bulgaria. It was announced as a village in 1955. At present its population is approximately 3500 people. Parvomay is the most populated village in Petrich Municipality. Most of its residents are settlers from the mountainous villages in Ograzhden Mountain.

Today the village is well-developed and provided with electricity, water, sewerage system and communication equipment. There is a town-hall, a secondary school, a kindergarten, a community centre, a church, a post station, several doctors and dentists, a stadium, commercial areas and tailoring workshops. The closest police station is in town of Petrich.

Landmarks and tourism

The village is a convenient starting point for climbing Markovi kladentsi mountain top and the high parts of Ograzhden Mountain. Markovi kladentsi area is preferred for recreation by the local residents and guests.

The traditional village fair takes place on 1 May. Organized are cultural and sport events such as competitions on folk songs and dances, football tournament at small doors, chess tournament, hunting shooting tournament, Marathon, etc. These events allow the gifted locals to show their talents.
