Vranya is a village in South-western Bulgaria. It is part of Sandanski Municipality, Blagoevgrad region.

It is 89 km south-east from town of Blagoevgrad, 28 km in the same direction from town of Sandanski, 171 km south from city of Sofia, 3 km west from village of Katuntsi, 9 km north-east from the Bulgarian-Greek border at village of Kulata and 22 km east from town of Petrich.

Its population is approximately 140 people.

The village spreads out the southern parts of Pirin Mountain, at 230 m above sea level, on the national road Gotse Delchev-Sandanski.

The climate is transitional-Mediterranean with hot summer, early spring, short autumn and mild winter.

The natural conditions are favourable for stock-breeding and raising perennial plants (mainly vineyards), agricultural crops (wheat, sesame, corn). The lands are suitable for raising the local Shiroka Melnishka Vine, which is famous with its first-classed wine production.

Village of Vranya is with well-preserved residential buildings in Bulgarian Revival style. Monuments of culture are 10 of them. The buildings are of Ograzhdensko-malashevska house type.

Tourism

Vranya is a tranquil and coquettish village, very convenient for relaxation and recreation. The village reveals splendid panoramic views of Pirin Mountain peaks. The mountain is perfect for walks and practicing winter sports. Here is located Pirin National Park, which is included in the UNESCO list of world heritage.

Just 12 km in south-western direction is village of Marikostinovo, popular with its thermal springs and healing mud-baths. Rupite land is located about 17 km away from Marikostinovo. The place is famous with the church of St Petka Bulgarska, constructed by the initiative of the Bulgarian prophecy Vanga. Hot mineral water springs next to the church. Its temperature is 78 C.

About 12 km in north-eastern direction is the cultural-historical reserve and town-museum - Melnik. The town is surrounded by marvellous and impressive sand pyramids. Only 5 km up the hills is the Rozhen Monastery. The monastery reveals amazing view of the mountain peaks of Pirin and Belasitsa and the Melnik pyramids as well.
