Obretenik is a village in the Central part of Northern Bulgaria. It is situated in Borovo Municipality, Ruse Region.
It is 32 km south-west from town of Ruse, 12 km north from town of Borovo, 47 km east from town of Svishtov, 210 km north-west from town of Varna and 265 km north-east from city of Sofia.
The village spreads out the eastern part of Danube plain, on 250 m above the sea level.
Obretenik is 2 km away of the international road E 85, part of transport corridor No 9 (Helsinki-Moscow-Bucharest-Ruse-Veliko Tarnovo-Alexandropolis). Regular bus transportation Ruse-Batin serves the village. Just 11 km away is the railway station at town of Dve mogili, which connects Ruse-Gorna Oryahovitsa and Ruse-Sofia.
In radius of 10 km flow Danube and Yantra Rivers. The lands are plain and hilly. The climate is humid continental with dry, hot summers and cold winters.
Obretenik is a well-developed village with population of about 1560 people. It is provided with electricity, water and communication equipment. There is a town-hall, a post office, an elementary school, a community centre, a medical centre, a pharmacy and various commercial areas.
The population is occupied mainly in farming, which is developed by two agricultural co-operations.
Cultural landmarks
The most important cultural institution in the village is 'Hristo Botev' community centre. It comprises a library, a museum collection and a painting gallery. The community centre works with women folklore singing group, children dancing group and theatre group.
The guests of the village may visit the historical monument charnel-house of the Russian soldiers from the Russian-Turkish Liberation War; the monument in honour of the village liberation of the Ottoman rule and the plaque of the soldiers who died in the Second World War.
