Momchilovtsi village is situated in a valley in the Middle Rhodopes with exit to the south with Hubcha spring. The north is protected by high watershed Rozhen, Karamanitsa, Kalachborun, Momina voda and Imaret dere.
Archaeological findings clearly indicate that the village and its land are inhabited by the Thracians at the end of the Bronze Age (1000 years BC). Coins, pottery and tools are stored in the local museum.
About the conquets of the Rhododpe mountains by the Ottomans are preserved no relaibale documents, the legends talk about popular names like Enihan baba, Sara baba and other. After the Ottoman invasion in the land of in the village settle yurutsi - Turkish shepherds and cattlemen who seek more comfortable pastures for their herds. In 18-19 century the yurutsi gradually purchased the land from the local Bulgarian population.
In 1836 in the village was buit a church. Over the next years the few living in Momchilovtsi (then Upper Derekyoy) ahryani (Bulgarian Muslims) emigrate.
Until 1912 the border between Bulgaria and the Ottoman Empire passes on the ridge of Rozhen part of the Rhodope Mountains, about 7-8 km north of Momchilovtsi, which at that time of the Ottoman territory.
On April 10, 1878 Upper Derekyoy is occupied by the so called "senkler" rebels. On May 20 the Russian army I case the rebels. In the summer of 1878 constant threat against the Christian villages forcing people on both sides of the new border to seek aid and protection of Petko Voyvoda. The emergence of Petko Voyvoda encourage the scared people and made the local gangs to refrain from harm over peaceful citizens.
The Berlin Congress in the summer of 1878 confirmed the maintenance of the village in Turkey. The new border through the ridge, which in old times was the boundary between Rupchos and Aha Chelebi. In November 1878 a committee designated border by hammering koltsi (stakes). These stakes and beat in the middle of the land of Gorno Derekyoy.Momchilovtsi is Bulgarian terrytory since the Balkan war. In 1934 at the request of the writer and public Vasil Dechov the village was renamed to Momchilovtsi " to immortalize the name of Momchil yunak" .

Momchilovtsi infrastructure is well designed, there are regular buses to neighboring towns and resorts, hotels, restaurants.
