Chuchur is a village in southern Bulgaria. It is located in Smolyan Municipality, Smolyan region.
It is about 18 km southeast from the town of Smolyan, 34 km in the same direction from the resort Pamporovo, 16 km northwest from the town of Rudozem and 264 km southeast from the city of Sofia.
It is situated at an altitude of 1095 m in the southern Rhodope Mountains.
The climate is temperate-continental, with a strong Mediterranean influence, with four well-defined seasons. The winter is mild but snow. Spring - green and fresh. Summer - cool. Autumn - long and warm.
The village is almost depopulated, the permanent population is about 4.
In the neighboring village Fatovo / 5 km west / there is a town hall, church "St. Petka", several shops and a cafe. The closest medical and educational institutions are located in the city of Smolyan.
Tourism and landmarks
In Smolyan village guests can visit: Smolyan History Museum - the oldest and largest in the Rhodope Mountains, Smolyan Planetarium, Rhodope Drama Theatre, "St. Vissarion", Monument of Orpheus and Eurydice, Rozhen Observatory.
In the town of Rudozem interesting are the following places:
Medieval fortress "Koznik" - situated on a cliff above the town of Rudozem. It can be reached by Eco path "Kechi Kaya" - "Koznik". The castle is part of the whole fortification system, which in the past has served to defend the Rhodopes.
Ancient Temple under the mount"Gypsy gradishte". This historical landmark is reached by Eco trail "Gypsy gradishte" - "The court".
